Setting standards are a critical part of the MRP Series of gages. Standards preset all models of the MRP Series crest diameter gages for an accurate inspection of API threaded connections in accordance with API Spec 5B1. Standards are available in 2 styles depending on your preference and budget. Gagemaker offers both rod style and frame style standards.
The rod style standards are a set of two ½” diameter precision length ground rods cabled together, tagged and certified for a certain connection. The longer of the 2 rods is used to preset the distance between the thread shoes (diameter) and the other rod accurately locates the position where the shoes will measure the diameter (axial location from the connection face).
The frame style standard is a precision constructed replica of the threaded connector. The tapered thread area is sized and certified to represent the connector being inspected. The MRP gage is set on top of the frame standard and adjusted to locate both the diameter and the shoe locations.
Both style standards achieve the same goal, after the shoes are located and locked, the gage is preset and ready to inspect the associated machined part.
